About the team and the role
TheCloud Data Technologies (CDT)team builds and operates the data infrastructure that powers all of eBay’s analytics, AI, and platform experiences.
We design, scale, and secure the full end-to-end data lifecycle — from ingestion to real-time insights — serving thousands of internal users and systems globally.
As aSr. MTS Software Engineer, you will shape the architectural vision and technical strategy of eBay’s Core Data Platform — a foundation that enables real-time, batch, and AI workloads at global scale.
This is an opportunity to define how data flows, is governed, and is leveraged across one of the largest ecommerce ecosystems in the world.
You’ll partner closely with product, infrastructure, and AI/ML engineering teams to design scalable, intelligent, and cost-efficient data systems that empower developers and analysts alike.
What you’ll accomplish
Lead the technical direction and architectural design for eBay’s next-generation data platform.
Design and build robust, distributed backend systems for data processing at global scale.
Optimize for high availability, performance, and cost-efficiency across real-time and batch data services.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to enable end-to-end data solutions for AI, search, trust, and marketplace insights.
Champion engineering excellence — code quality, automation, observability, and reliability.
Mentor engineers and contribute to an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.
What you’ll bring
8 + years of experience in backend or distributed systems engineering (ideally in Data Platform or Infrastructure teams).
Strong proficiency in Java, Scala, or Go, with solid grounding in algorithms, data structures, and system design.
Deep understanding of distributed data systems — Kafka, Spark, Flink, HDFS, or similar frameworks.
Experience building and operating large-scale services on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or private cloud).
Familiarity with data governance, cataloging, and pipeline orchestration frameworks.
Ability to drive technical strategy in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills — you thrive in diverse, cross-functional teams.
Additional information
Location:Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid )
Hybrid Work Model:3 days per week onsite in eBay’s Dublin office.
Travel:Occasional, for team collaboration and global summits.
Compensation & benefits
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in Ireland is competitive and aligned to market benchmarks for senior technical engineering roles.
Base pay offered will vary depending on skills, experience, and location.
