In 2020 Johnson Controls launched OpenBlue, a concept to unite our products under a common brand, and build upon a common OpenBlue platform.

Part of this platform requires a common Identity and Authentication platform for both users and devices.

The OpenBlue AnA team builds this Identity platform to commission devices with identities within the factory, and builds APIs to support Product teams with their Identity requirements.

We’re looking to expand our offering into new geographic regions and support many more devices and products.

What you will do

Reporting to the Software Engineering manager based in Cork, as a Senior Java Developer you will be a key member in the development, architecture, maintenance and technical direction of the OpenBlue AnA Platform.

You will be part of a team located in Ireland.

How you will do it

  1. Full end to end ownership of SW product design and delivery from the whiteboard to continuous deployment.

  2. Work closely with and across internal teams to bring a Quality First mentality and shifting testing left.

  3. Cultivate a positive attitude and willingness to take on new tasks as they arise.

  4. Participate in code reviews across multiple services and languages.

  5. Gather and define specifications and requirements based on technical needs.

  6. Work independently and collaboratively with team members.

  7. Work on bug fixing and improving application performance.

  8. Help teams with root cause analysis of performance & scalability issues and contribute code to help address these issues.

  9. Contribute to using development tools, CI, source control and tracking system.

  10. Offer consultancy to Product teams looking to adopt OAuth 2.0 and OIDC.

What we look for

  1. Authorisation to work in Ireland and ability to work in a hybrid role.

  2. 5+ years’ experience.

  3. Designing highly scalable APIs and available distributed systems.

  4. With containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  5. Experience with leveraging analytics, monitoring, observability software to drive decision making.

  6. Coding in Java or other backend OO languages.

  7. CI/CD pipelines, and experience integrating testing frameworks with these pipelines.

  8. In one or more cloud providers, including AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform.

  9. Absolutely obsessed about improving the performance of the platform.

  10. Wish to stay hands-on in all technical aspects.

  11. Comfortable performing code reviews, coaching, and mentoring engineers.

  12. Possess a strong desire to dig into complex problems and understand the root cause of the problem.

  13. Passionate about delivering high quality software and processes.

  14. Comfortable working in an agile development environment.

  15. Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.

  16. Awareness of security best practices and standards.

Nice to have

  1. You have experience with BDD, for example Cucumber.

  2. You have experience with OAuth, OIDC, SAML.

  3. You have experience with PKI.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Computer science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
