Job Description

We are looking for a Senior DeltaV Automation Engineer / Technical Lead to provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise in the design, configuration, and implementation of Emerson DeltaV.

The successful candidate will act as the technical authority for DeltaV automation solutions, driving system design, integration, and validation activities across multiple high-value pharmaceutical or biotechnological projects.

This role combines deep technical capability with leadership in mentoring engineers and ensuring project excellence.

Key Responsibilities

1.

Technical Ownership

  • Serve as DeltaV subject matter expert (SME) for system architecture, configuration, and deployment.

  • Lead the full automation lifecycle: design, configuration, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and validation.

  • Define and maintain automation standards, templates, and libraries for DeltaV projects.

  • Lead control strategy development, including batch, continuous, and hybrid process configurations.

  • Ensure compliance with GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and EU Annex 11 requirements.

2.

Project Leadership

  • Act as technical lead for major DeltaV automation projects, ensuring technical quality, budget, and schedule adherence.

  • Oversee and review Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Detailed Design Documents (DDS), and I/O lists.

  • Supervise and coordinate FAT, SAT, and site commissioning activities.

  • Collaborate with process, instrumentation, electrical, and validation disciplines to ensure seamless system integration.

  • Lead technical discussions with clients, vendors, and cross-functional project teams.

3.

Team Development

  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level automation engineers in DeltaV design and configuration best practices.

  • Provide technical training and support to engineering and operations staff.

  • Promote knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and cross-project standardisation within the automation team.

4.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Support system lifecycle management — upgrades, migrations, and performance optimization.

  • Drive digitalization initiatives, including integration with MES, data historians, and analytics systems.

  • Contribute to automation strategy development, technology evaluation, and best practice deployment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Chemical, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering (or equivalent).

  • 7–10+ years’ experience in industrial automation, with extensive hands-on experience in Emerson DeltaV DCS systems.

  • Proven track record in leading large-scale automation projects within pharma, biotech, or process manufacturing.

  • In-depth knowledge of DeltaV Batch (ISA-88), Control Studio, Diagnostics, and DeltaV Operate/Live.

  • Strong understanding of GMP environments and computer system validation (CSV) principles.

  • Experience with networked control architectures, virtualization, and cybersecurity.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

  • Desirable Skills

    • Experience integrating DeltaV with MES (e.g., Syncade), data historians (e.g., OSI PI), or PLC-based subsystems.

    • Familiarity with ISA-95 standards and Industry 4.0 / digital plant initiatives.

    • Project management experience (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent).

    • Experience with DeltaV upgrades, virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V), and DeltaV PK Controller systems.
