Job Profile:
The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer position is based within the Valeo R&D department and will form an integral part of a cross-functional team developing next generation vision systems for the automotive market.
This is a diverse position where the successful applicant is accountable and drives all the mechanical aspects of their project(s), to deliver robust designs on time and within budget.
Responsibilities:
Lead various projects from a mechanical design perspective and be part of a multidisciplinary team developing solutions for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems including cameras, ECUs and domain controllers.
Represent R&D on project, customer and supplier interactions.
Interface across a multidisciplinary environment in a clear and effective manner.
Provide technical direction and coaching/mentoring of junior engineers on the team and in the department.
Provide support and input to other tasks within the function as deemed necessary by management and senior management.
Responsible for prioritizing work daily, weekly and at a project level for all mechanical contributors working on the project(s) assigned.
Responsible for identifying and escalating resource needs across their projects not limited to, deficiencies, training needs, performance and inputting to (but not responsible for) appraisals as needed.
Lead and give direction on project related technical activities including product validation/testing, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, dimensional and design optimisations.
Manage project documentation in the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) database.
Support technical architecture and standards assignments.
Education/Training:
Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design or equivalent.
Professional Experience:
Mandatory:
5+ years experience in Mechanical Design.
Experience in developing products for high volume manufacturing.
Tooling and moulding experience - ability to identify and suggest part improvements.
Experience with engineering tools such as DOE and SPC.
Problem solving techniques and methodical approaches to the same.
Experience in developing 2D drawings and 3D designing using 3D CAD.
Self-starter, motivated individual who can work well alone or as part of a design team.
The person must be able to demonstrate a high level of commitment, initiative and quality of workmanship required within the R&D environment.
High level of enthusiasm and motivation, and the ability to take input from others are desirable.
Good communicator and fluent in English, both in writing and speaking.
Desirable:
Previous experience in a senior/lead engineer role or managing a professional team.
Experience in an automotive environment.
Experience with vision products, automotive electronics.
Tolerance investigations and stack up analysis experience.
Detailed Drawings and Drawing Control inc.
GD+T.
Experience in designing Thermal solutions both Active and Passive an advantage
